The Conflict Between The Universal Powers
The Creation of the Primal Gods
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Lucerne, the universal embodiment of light, is at constant war with Nocani, the universal embodiment of the void. These powers are not entities or beings, but rather are what they are powers of. Lucerne is literally light. Nocani is literally the void. The combined power of the light or of the void is very rarely manifested in a single form, every thousand years when the powers of light and the powers of the void marshall their forces and rally to their banners to march against each other that they might keep balance in the universe. At this time is when the mantles of lesser immortals may be passed on to more worthy recipients. At the beginning of time, before the first clash between light and void, the avatars of Lucerne and Nocani were manifest and became lonely, and tired of each other’s company. Thus, each created a companion out of its essence. Lucerne created Cam, the Goddess of Light. Nocani created Noir, the God of the Night. From this, the spark of their curiosity was kindled. In a joint effort, Lucerne and Nocani created Rezar, God of Fire and of Passion, and Azura, Goddess of Water and of Deception. Azura took more after Noir and Nocani, whereas Rezar took more after Cam and Lucerne. Azura eventually became jealous of Cam, and her position as the favored of the current avatar of Lucerne, coveting the position of her sister for herself. She sought to kill Cam, dispersing her essence across the dimension. Lucerne, grieving over the loss of his daughter, sought vengeance from her killer, and avenged himself upon Azura. Noir and Nocani, stricken with grief at the loss of their sister, took up arms against Lucerne to avenge their fallen sister. Rezar fought alongside Lucerne, in Cam’s rightful place, and the conflict between the forces of light and darkness shook the dimension itself. Cam was reborn into being, and, upon seeing her brethren at war, threw her lot in with her father, Lucerne, and her brother Rezar. As Noir and Nocani were slowly beaten down, Azura was in turn reborn, and fought alongside them against Lucerne and his forces. Noir was eventually captured by Rezar, who hatched with him a plan to end the hostilities among the family. An accord was made, through the efforts of Rezar and Noir, that no being was to ever again make another, and in exchange, no being would ever harm another. The anger at Azura’s betrayl, however, was not washed away by the white peace, but rather was content to smoulder, like the heart of a glowing coal. Lucerne, dissatisfied with this manufactured peace, set upon himself a task. Secretly, he made that which was not a being. A world, a world of worlds, a world of all of the wonders of which he dreamed made reality. This he did in secret, so as to keep his task from those he feared would destroy it. To keep his secret safe, he made Verlyn, God of the Earth, to watch o’er his creations and mantain their isolation from the conflicts of their elders. Azura, however, found out about the machinations of Lucerne, and sought to end the existence he had wrought. To Nocani she brought proof of Lucerne’s betrayl, expecting another battle as the one long before, but was rebuffed. Thrice she tried, and thrice she was denied. Instead, she brought her knowledge to Noir, who created Braith, Goddess of War and of Metal, to wreak havoc among the peaceful creations of Lucerne. Nocani, upon finding out about the existence of Braith, approached Noir with the intention of punishing his insolence in violating the accord between brother and sister.Noir and Azura put upon Nocani a curse of sleep, putting Nocani into a state of living death. Lucerne, when he found out about the state of his creations and about the fate of his counterpary, decried that the accord was broken among brother and sister, and threw his creations unto the dimension, creating world after world, begetting the cosmos, destroying it, and creating it once more.Cam and Verlyn, fearful of what their father had become, set upon him a peaceful slumber, much akin to the one set upon Nocani, which left him in an alike state of living death. Thus were created the Material Plane and the Primal Gods. Thus fell the powers of the universe.

The Creation of the Pantheonic Gods
The Fall of the Sephirii and Malachai
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
After a thousand years of rule by the Primal Gods, the avatars of Lucerne and Nocani walked the lands of the Material Plane. At this, the gods were stunned, and afraid. They marshalled their forces in preparation for battle, but their fears were soon allayed. The powers of the avatars were bestowed upon mortals, those fleeting creations of Lucerne which had given them so much pleasure over the last millenia. They sought to create their own races, and, indeed, they had. The powers of Lucerne were bestowed upon a nadari prince, the creation of Noir, creatures of dark skin and white hair, which turned his skin pale, and his eyes a deep, vibrant gold. Those kinsmen which he touched also were changed to look akin to him, and looked to him in awe. The powers of Nocani were also bestowed upon a young nadari orphan, who had grown up on the fringe of society. These powers slowly corrupted her, giving her the power to take the souls of mortals and consume their essence, making them something other than what they once were. With the power gained from such acts, she could bestow a mockery of immortality, and with it she raised the body of her dead lover, hoping in vain to walk with him again under the sun and stars. When she realized what she had done, she despaired, and destroyed that which she had created. In her infatuation with her newfound power, she had taken the soul of a beloved of the elven avatar of Lucerne to raise her lover from the dead. The followers of the avatar of Lucerne had sought to bring their entire race behind the rule of Lucerne’s avatar, and were enraged at the desecration of one of their own. They sought out the avatar of Nocani and brought her to her knees, to be killed by their lord. The last remaining remnants of the nadari race resisting the domination of the angels, or “Enlightened Ones”, assaulted the palace of their foes as the avatar of Lucerne raised his blade above the head of the killer of his beloved. They fought her free of his grasp, and hid her from his madness. Safe with her newfound family, the young nadari avatar learned to control her powers, and prepared for war against the oppressors of her race. The forces of light and of the void met for the first time in a thousand years. Eventually, the avatar of Lucerne was thrown down, and the avatar of Nocani rose in his place. A thousand years later, the avatar of the Nocani, proclaimed “Malachai”, or “Saviour”, was thrown down by an avatar of Lucerne, proclaimed “Sephiroth”, or “Avenger”. A millenia after, the avatars met in battle again, wreaking destruction upon the Material Plane, raging unchecked across the land. In response to their predations, the races of the world combined to strike back. To strike a blow that would tell the powers in no uncertain terms “We will not go quietly into the night.” From across the land, mages gathered to harness their power and gave their lives to create a power beyond the ken of the Sephiroth or the Malachai. They created the Twelve. Mantles of power to create gods of their own devising, to combat those who believed them but pawns in a game. The mantle of Aza Guilla, Lady of the Long Silence, sought out an elderly widow, grieving at a temple to Noir for her husband who had fallen in a war long ago, and a son fallen to this new madness between avatars. The mantle of Azri, Lord of the Blade and Master of Whispers, sought out an old blademaster, who had long ago put up his sword in favor of a mediator’s robes, trying in vain to convince the forces of the light and of the void to wield pen and word instead of blade and bow. Callo Androno, a wandering historian, blessed with a latent magical talent and the knowledge of a sage. Gandolo, a quartermaster for the angels, pressed into service against his will. Dama Elliza, a matron tending a fallow field on a war-torn plain. Iono, a fisherman mending his net, gazing at the pirates raiding just outside the bay.Morgante, an engineer for the demons, the nadari resistance, coerced and made to serve. Nara, a woman dying of plague in a ruined street. Perelandro, a blind beggar pleading to the crowds. Sendovani, a weaponsmith whose forge was destroyed by raiders. Venaportha, a judge’s wife whose husband was put under the blade of the resistance. Aman, a minstrel and courtier in the court of the Sephiroth, whose love was lost to the predations of a favoured noble. And a thirteenth mantle, unnoticed and unnamed, sped out across the land, seeking a bearer. It sped down a city street, away from the wealthy parts of the city. It blew through a window and under a door. It settled on a young orphan, never given a name, thieving for his dinner. And thus were Twelve created, and Thirteen made. From the steps of her temple, Aza Guilla walked to the gates of her city, the widows and war orphans following silently in her wake. Setting down his pen, Azri stepped up to the sword hanging beside his door, and gazed at it with hardened eyes. Callo Androno gathered those of magic who yet lived, travelling along roads not known to the avatars. Gandolo unsheathed the blade he had not used in years. Dama Elliza put down the plow and took up the scythe, her kinsmen appearing from field and forest. Iono finished mending his net, and took up his fishing spear, turning to the forlorn sailors on the docks who were yet gazing at the floating pyres that were once pround vessels. Morgante finished rolling up his schematics and shoved them into a satchel. Damned if those warmongering fools would kill any more men with his creations. Nara looked down at her newly healed hands, and then at the dead sergeant. It seems that the Sephiroth has a dire need of a plague of conscience. Perelandro peeks over his blindfold. The overlooked are often the ones that should be watched most closely. Sendovani took up his hammer and looked towards the arrogant captain. This work was far too good for the likes of him. He hefts the blade in his hand.Venaportha takes up her husband’s blade, and gazes into the eyes of the demon that killed her husband. Aman gazes towards the nobles of the Court of the Sephiroth, and notes the Sephiroth dicing with his favoured. Perhaps luck is with him today more than he suspected. The orphan looked towards the gilded palace of the Malachai. Now isn’t it just a touch unfair that they have so much of the stuff that they encrust an entire godsdamned palace with it? Angels and demons fell, to the flashing sword of Azri, to the hard eyes of Dama Elliza. To the silent gaze of Aza Guilla, to the strokes of the hammer of Sendovani. Eventually, thus fell the Sephiroth. Thus fell the Malachai. And thus rose a new order, as the Twelve ascended unto the Astral Plane, followed closely, but secretly, by a Thirteenth.

Afterlife, Reincarnation, and Immortality
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Deceased mortal souls are generally immediately reincarnated onto the Material Plane. Those individuals who earn special consideration are judged by Aza Guilla, Perelandro, and Venaportha. A judgement may result in a reward or punishment, depending on the nature of the interest of the gods in the deceased. A judgement that an individual is worthy to ascend means that the deceased may choose to either be reincarnated, or become a servant of one of the gods, an immortal. Immortals may not consciously take up the mantle of a demigod, but may be deemed by the mantle the most appropriate vessel, and the mantle may bestow itself upon them. Individuals who do great things in life may find themselves ascended upon the moment of their death, their state of being captured as they become immortals themselves. An immortal made in this fashion is referred to as a Risen, and is able to take up the mantle of a demigod purposefully, and are also subject to the mantle bestowing itself upon them. Demigods are immortals of great power, and have their own planes, or control areas of their patron god’s plane. Demigods may take up the mantle of a god fallen in battle. While an immortal or Risen may only take up the mantle of a demigod which is beholden to the god which raised them, a demigod may be deemed the most suitable vessel of any of the gods’ mantles.
